Single Destinations

These single destination trips have been a mix of road trip and air travel. Some of the trips may be used as regional references or may inform future road trips. In Albuquerque, NM I learned about White Sands and the atom bomb. In Carpinteria, CA I visited the Chumash Cave Paintings in the Santa Ynez Mountains in the Los Pedros National Forest, which was somewhat harrowing to get to and I may not make it there again. Taos, NM was an important road trip because it was the first significant solo road trip, and kicked off the initial Public Field Guide project, though it had a different mission at the time. New York Mills, MN was an artist residency where the project focus shifted to land and nature when I was kept awake at night listening to the trains (90 per day) carrying coal and oil from the Bakken oil fields where the Bakken shale formation extends beneath Theodore Roosevelt National Park.
